Does anyone know if there is an order to which a service is started first on
a win9x system?

I'd like to get my program to run as the very first service, but am not sure
if services are run in any order such as alphabetical or so.

Does the win.ini's "LOAD" or "RUN" take priority over the services?

Of "LOAD" and "RUN", which of those takes priority over each other?

I saw references to this in some earlier posts, but the question of which is
run first was not answered, or if services were actually run first.

I've got a security program here that seriously needs to be the first thing
run before anything else, so I've gotta find an answer to this one somehow.

Thanks in advance,
-Garrett

P.S. I'm only concerned about win9x systems and not NT based systems.

I don't have Windows 9x, but you might be able to make it run first with
the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

Other than that I don't have any other suggestions. Sad

But, does anyone know if there's an order to which service is run first out
of all the services that are going to be run?

An idea, get the process explorer from www.sysinternals.com, then look at the PIDs for all that are running. The process IDs are given out in order, so the lwest should be started first. Just a thought!

Don't know if it is possible with Windows versions after 98, but maybe you can try to make your application the Windows Shell, by adding shell=appname.exe to win.ini (into the [boot] section). I don't know if it will run before all other services, but you can give it a try...
