|
|
| I'm a registered user of VDS (older version) but I have not been able to use it for a while. In any case, I have been looking at it again & would like to install the latest version onto my PC at work - with a view to purchasing an upgrade. However, the installation is blocked when it wants to put the DLL into a system folder as this folder is not accessible on the network. I could just chat with the NetAdmin but I'm already pestering them enough with other requests. When I've installed other apps, I have been able to extract the problematic files via Winzip & install them into an accessible folder (somewhere else on the Path, if necessary) - but, this doesn't seem to be an option with the VDS installation file. Any suggestions? |

Hi,
First of all, welcome to the VDSWORLD Forums.
Unfortunately you will have to have either the network administrator
or a local administrator on the computer in question install the software.
This will be the case for all software that wants to put a file in a restricted
folder (such as /windows or /system). The problem you're experiencing
is a result of the Windows policies being enforced by your network. _________________ FreezingFire

Hi,
Thanks for your quick reply.
I hear what you're saying. But, when I ran into a similar problem with installing Ygnius, I was able to identify the files that the installation wanted to put into the \system folder & extract them via Winzip - into the folder that the rest of the Ygnius files had been installed into. Works fine.
However, the VDS installation file can't be accessed by Winzip in the same manner so I was wondering if anyone could think of a workaround.
If I'm able to do this, I know that I will still run into obstacles in getting compiled executables to run - I guess the resolution will be to run them from the same subdir if I can't put the DLL somewhere in the PATH. |

Here's what I suggest: You should install VDS 5.02 on your home computer,
copy the program files directory,
and make sure you get the system files it installs (such as vdsrun50.dll)
and copy them to your computer at work.
I know I have successfully gotten VDS 5 to run on a work computer by
copying the installation from home.
To download VDS 5.02:
